The tides on Horns Rev are approx. 1.2 meters. The average wave height is approx. 1-1.5 meters with mostly westerly winds. The changing wave environment results in waves of more than 6 meters once every year.

The tidal currents are predominantly in the north-south direction and of approx. 0.5 m/s. The currents during a storm may reach 0.8 m/s. The varying depths on the reef produce surfs in the windfarm area.

The salinity is approx. 3-3.4 %, depending on time of year and wind conditions.
