When the turbines with their protective gravel mattress are fixed in the seabed, this will create a new environment where marine plants and animals will be able to seek shelter by attaching themselves to the turbine foundation or the stones. Hopefully, this environment on the foundations and between the stones will foster new plant and animal life, and thus attract a range of different fish species. Fish may be drawn to the new structure on the sea floor and the possibility of large quantities of food in the area. The monitoring programme will study whether or not the offshore wind farm will attract new fish species as well as to what extent they will then come to the area to feed.
