Marking

Marking to warn air traffic

All the farm's turbines have warning lights to warn the air traffic in the area. The marking consists of two read lights placed on top of the nacelle.

The turbines placed in the outer rows of the wind farm all have warning lights. When all turbines are in operation, the lights will blink steadily and simultaneously at intervals of 1-3 seconds. The intensity of the blink is controlled by the visibility in the wind farm area. At a visibility of more than five kilometers, the intensity is lowered to a level corresponding to 10 % of the maximum intensity.

The turbines inside the wind farm will emit a constant red light of a considerably lower intensity than the lights on the turbines in the outer rows of the farm.

To test this solution, a number of test flights have been made in the area of the Horns Rev prototype wind turbine in Tjaereborg near Esbjerg in December 2001 and at Tunų Knob offshore wind farm at the east coast of Jutland.

To increase safety in the daytime, the tips of the turbine blades have been painted orange (approx. 6 meters from the tip of the blade).

Marking to warn sea traffic
In the outer north, south, east and west rows of the farm, four of the turbines have lanterns beaming with a yellow light of the character Fl.(3)Y.10s. (1+1+1+1+1+5), meaning that the lanterns emit a blink three times in the course of a 10-second cycle as follows:

blink - 0 - blink - 0 - blink - 0 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 0

All lanterns blink simultaneously. The light power of the blink is approx. 5 nautical miles. The lanterns will only be blinking when its dark.

Positions
The wind farm positions are:

55° 30,11.50“ N. 7° 47,46.93“ E
55° 30,14.23“ N. 7° 52,34.11“ E
55° 28,8.64“ N. 7° 53,4.91“ E
55° 28,5.93“ N. 7° 48,17.97“ E

The wind farm and its permanent buoyage are indicated on the latest copy (April 2003) of chart 61 and 94 (INT 1411), cf. Chart rectifications 17/2003.
