Press Release: Erection work completed at Horns Rev

The erection work in connection with the establishing of the wind farm at Horn Rev has now been completed two weeks ahead of schedule due to  persistent and engaged efforts by all contractors involved.

The erection work which has been dependent on the weather conditions has taken place in the North Sea, 14-20 km west of Blaavandshuk on the west coast of Jutland. The erection work has comprised the driving of the foundation piles, erection of wind turbines and cable-laying of the 160 MW huge wind farm.

"Elsam is very pleased to have reached this milestone at an earlier stage than scheduled. This is an important proof of the possibility of erecting large offshore wind farms - even under the difficult conditions prevailing in the North Sea", says Flemming Thomsen, Manager, Elsam Wind Power Development.

The foundation work which has been carried out by MT Højgaard was completed on August 3 with the mounting of the final transition piece on the 80 wind turbine foundations.

At midnight on August 21, Vestas reported that the main erection work of the 80 wind turbines at Horns Rev had been completed and, on August 23 the company Nexans could install the final cables, connecting the wind turbines in the farm. Thus the erection work had been completed two weeks ahead of schedule.

Says Project Manager Jens W. Bonefeld, "Our contractors have made a great effort. They have learned by experience and the time schedule has been rather hectic at times. Thanks to their and our determination about solving the tasks in a good and effective manner we and our contractors have fully benefited from the advantages of learning by doing as well as enjoyed the good weather this last month".

After the completion of the erection work a lot of work still remains to be done in many of the wind turbines, e.g. cable termination, final installations, testing and commissioning. At present, four wind turbines have been commissioned. All 80 wind turbines of the wind farm should be in operation in mid November 2002.
